Mojito

Mojito - irresistibly fresh and punchy, this authentic Mojito cocktail recipe is a one-way salsa dance to the Caribbean.

Mojito ingredients: 1½ limes, cut into wedges - 20 fresh mint leaves - 2½ tsp granulated sugar - handful ice - 65ml/2½fl oz white rum - splash soda water, to taste - fresh mint sprig, to garnish.

Mojito preparation method:

  • Place the limes, mint and sugar into a sturdy highball glass and 'muddle' or mash with the end of a clean rolling pin, to bruise the mint and release the lime juice.
  • Add the ice and pour over the rum.
  • Add soda water to taste and stir well. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve.

The Story of Mojito

With a decidedly Cuban heritage, the Mojito is quickly gaining popularity among drink afficianados and the party scene. While the following isn't the authentic original Bodeguita del Medio Cuban recipe for a mojito, some people will take half of the juiced lime and cut into into four wedges to add to the glass. Place ice in beverage shaker then add in the rum, 8 broken up mint sprigs, lime juice and sugar. What are you waiting for, go put on some Perez Prado mambo music and start making mojitos.

Personally I like my Mojito with spiced rum, brown sugar, topped with lemonade and sometimes added Cava for extra zing.
