Gin drinks recipes
The best known gin drink is the Martini, a cocktail made with gin and dry vermouth.
Perfect Gin & Tonic
- Get a long, tall, cold glass. Known as a Slim Jim.
- Fill the glass with ice cubes, not just a couple in the bottom, but fill it to the brim!
- Pour in a generous measure of gin, a double at least.
- Top up to just below the brim with cold tonic water. The tonic will settle the ice cubes down a bit further in the glass.
- Take a segment of lime, not a slice, and squeeze it gently into the glass, then wipe the lime segment around the brim before dropping it into the glasss.
- Stir the drink with a swizzle stick.
- Drink.
Today's modern 'standard' G&T, served in most pubs, contains about 25ml gin and 150ml tonic. Most connoisseurs consider this to be too weak, however, and generally buy a 'double' (ie, containing 50ml of gin). A dash of Angostura bitters may also be added to produce so-called pink gin.
